Program Overview:

Whether it’s a lost piece of equipment, a dropped item or a planned underwater task, search and recovery skills are some of the most practical and useful abilities a diver can develop.

The SSI Search and Recovery specialty teaches you how to plan and carry out effective underwater searches using structured search patterns and practical recovery procedures.

You’ll learn how to adapt your search technique to the environment, visibility, bottom conditions and the type of object you are trying to locate.

You’ll also practise recovery techniques and tools, including the controlled use of lift devices for objects that cannot be brought up manually.

This specialty is ideal for divers who want to become more useful, more controlled and more confident when handling task-focused dives underwater.

Requirements

• Minimum 12 years old
• SSI Open Water Diver certification or equivalent
