I wish I understood why!

Why do your ears need equalising when you go deeper?

What is Nitrogen Narcosis?

What is decompression and why do technical divers have to do this?

These are all important questions that every diver should know the answers to. The more that you, as a diver, understand about how and why certain things happen or are needed, the better placed you will be to prevent potential problems.

The SSI Science of Diving speciality is a non-diving knowledge course that provides an in-depth and detailed study of physics, physiology, decompression theory, the aquatic environment and diving equipment. It is required training for most SSI Dive Professional programs, as well as some Extended Range programmes

  • The SSI Science of Diving speciality course costs €150. The course can be completed in one day and is open to any diver holding an Open Water certification.
