Museo Atlantico – Lanzarote’s must see dive site
Officially opened in 2017 the Museo Atlantico is now Lanzarote’s most popular dive site. At Rubicon Diving we are blessed in having the two closest dive centres to the Museum, first at the main Marina Rubicon dive centre and second centre at the Sandos Papagayo Hotel. We dive at the Museo every day of the week so come dive with us at this unique dive site and experience the Rubicon difference.
The Museo Atlantico was designed by British artist Jason deCaries Taylor and is the first underwater sculpture park in Europe. The Museo consists of over 300 individually designed sculptures and covers a total area of more than 2,500 square metres. The sculptures are arranged in six groups each focusing on a different theme including climate change, the refugee crisis and the merging of humanity and nature.
The sculptures were made using pH neutral concrete which means that they have no negative impact upon the local flora and fauna. Over time, the sculptures change colour and become covered with coral and biological growth, creating an artificial reef that is continually evolving. The first sculptures submerged in 2016 have already seen an increase of over 200% in marine life and are frequented by, among others, Angel sharks, schools of Barracuda and Bream, octopus and butterfly rays.
The Museo is located at a depth of between 12 and 15 metres just off the coast of Playa Blanca. These depths mean that the site can be enjoyed by divers, snorkelers and freedivers alike and Rubicon Diving caters for all of these. We have regular visits to the Museo Atlantico both mornings and afternoons. Reserve your place now for your visit to this unique dive site.

A Day at the Museum.
Your first try dive AND a visit to the Museo. That’s the Rubicon Difference!
The Museo Atlantico is an ideal location for you to make your first dive and experience the thrill of being underwater and seeing the magical world created by Jason deCaries Taylor. At Rubicon Diving we can offer you the perfect way to enter this world through our Day at the Museum try dive package.
Starting at 9 AM you meet your instructor for the day. Your instructor will show you your dive equipment and explain to you how it works and basic safety procedures. Once you are familiar with the dive equipment and you have your wetsuit on you will enter the water in the bay area next to the Rubicon Dive Centre. This is a perfect place to enter the water as you can walk in at a pace that you are comfortable with. Once you feel relaxed breathing underwater and are ready to move on you will go with your instructor on a short dive around the bay. Even though this is a shallow dive area it is still populated by many types of fish and it is not uncommon to see rays and Angel sharks in this area.
After lunch comes the highlight of your day, a trip out to the museum. The dive boat leaves from the marina at 3pm for a 10 minute ride to the dive site. Once anchored you will enter the water with your instructor and slowly descend along the anchor line down to the start of the museum tour. At all times your instructor will be with you guiding you and ensuring your safety, all you have to do is relax and enjoy the sights. Your dive will typically last around 40 minutes bringing you back to the exit line so that you can safely ascend back to the boat.
At the end of your day you will be issued with your SSI Basic Diver certification. This will allow you to dive in similar conditions down to 12 meters under the supervision of a dive professional and is valid for 6 months.
